ISO/IEC 17020 Inspection Bodies Accreditation

What is ISO/IEC 17020?

ISO 17020, entitled "General Criteria for the Operation of Various Types of Bodies Performing Inspection", is an internationally recognized standard for the competence of inspection bodies.  ISO 17020 should not be confused with the quality management system-specific ISO 9001. ISO 9001 does not require an evaluation of a certification body's technical competence and should not be considered an ' appropriate ' alternative to ISO 17020.
